About La Jara

La Jara is a tiny south-central Colorado town tucked between Alamosa and Antonito on Highway 285 near the New Mexican border. There are a few shops and restaurants in town, as well as historic downtown district. 

Situated in Conejos county, La Jara was incorporated in 1902. It's Statutory Town residing at an elevation of 7,605 feet. The population was recorded at 743 residents in 2021.La Jara City Limits

  • The Board of Trustees of the Town of La Jara will hold Open House/Public Meetings on January 29, 2026, 6:30pm at Northerner’s Senior Center, 413 Main Street, La Jara, CO 81140. The purpose of this Open House is to allow members of the public to provide feedback and gather information regarding Recreational Marijuana Dispensary Allowance. No formal action will be taken.
